that's okay to me. actually we don't hide our real names, one can look
up the authors file and there one will find everyone's real name.

the last section paragraph makes sense. but of course i don't want to
force anybody. i used to use my nick in commits for a very long time, i
still have my nick in my signature. (mainly because i would have the
same signature as the FUSE author if i would remove the 'V' :) )
oh but i do use nicks for some of my friends since their last names is
not unique and using the full real names is longer than their nicks ;)
so probably a matter of taste.

i don't know exactly know what is the correct search term, but here is a
number:
$ grep -c 'GET /newsletter' www.frugalware.org-access_log
30768
the log file is not rotated since 28/Jul/2005. one attempt to make the
newsletter popular is creating a news entry for each issue. that
includes sending a mail to -announce and thus notifying sites like
distrowatch (the current issue is linked on their front page)
