[Frugalware-devel] Google Summer of Code

Hi all,

VMiklos and I discussed this a bit on .dev on IRC, and I decided to post
here for more discussion :)

Anyway, as you may know, Google Summer of Code is a way of students
doing work for open source projects and getting sponsored for doing it.
If they successfully complete their project, Google will pay them. The
mentoring organizations (basically the project, such as us) gets paid
$500 for each project. So, this year I think we should be a mentoring
organization in SoC. But, we need some projects that could be worked on.
Here is a list of things that I came up with:

  * FwLive Installer - I started this, but never really got anywhere
with it. It's crap code anyway :)
  * GFpm - This was also worked on a bit but desco left and then nothing
else really happened. This is kind of important as we need a decent GUI
package manager
  * Frugalware Control Center - A control center similar to the
system-config tools in Fedora/RHEL or YaST in SUSE. This would be based
on the libfw*config libraries we already have.

Of course, there's not much there, so it would be nice if people can add
things that they would like to be done. Also, after some discussion here
I'll transfer the list of projects we come up with to a wiki page, then
we can sign up for SoC.

Thanks!
Alex
