Thank you very much for responding. As I earlier stated, I represent a
firm (UKN Communications Nigeria Ltd) that has great interest in
developing a distro that will be suited to the Nigerian, operating
environment. I am the Chief Technology Officer, with a few years of
experience using and deploying Linux based solutions, both personally
and in the enterprise. I was drawn to your work by the similarities i
percive it has with ArchLinux (Pacman). Therefore to truly get the
ball rolling,
Who will I be speaking to directly regarding this?
Does your distribution include proprietary drivers that will require
any form of licensing? Will we need to purchase such licenses?
Will it be possible to include the functionality to be able to compete
with MS Windows to a good extent(that is, for the ordinary user)?
People need weaning off Windows a whole lot here. That is a very big
need.
What sort of localization would you need done, in order to have
Nigerian languages, and an African look and feel desktop environment?
What responsibilities will you be expecting from us?
How long do you estimate before we can have a presentable product?
Most importantly, this Nigerian distro will have to look like its a
home grown solution,
so that we can get easier inroads into the powers that be for
distribution where it pays, and is most needed. Therefore, your
involvement will be as our technical partners. Would you have any
reservations to that?
Our model is to build a world class support structure around what we
create together, that will be profitable for all involved. We believe
we can get the needed government interest in what we create, as a
powerful, viable (and much more affordable alternative) to Windows.
We also have some ideas we would like to pursue in building specific,
"bespoke" OS's that will fill some particular niches.
How do we start talking, and who will spearhead this discussion for your team?
Hope to hear from you soon.I can be reached at this email address, or
at shina at ukncommunications.com.
