IroNiQ and pete,
Thanks for your responses. It shows quite clearly that I should have
done more research instead of focusing on the error messages from
GMail's interface. :( I apologise for taking up your time when I
should have spent more of my time before asking for help.
I will try your suggested changes and see if I can then get mail
importing to work.
