That first post did not sound like i wanted it to. I don't mean to be arrogant, to be a new user and presume that i know how to do things better. the problem under xfce isn't the gfpm, but the xfce mcs plugin for it. it uses an xterm window to launch it. I just thought it was standard via freedesktop.org to include .desktop files with GUI programs, and the gnome,xfce, kde etc all handle those. 

Is gnetconfig custom frugal? Time to read more Docs.
