Hello everybody,
I think there are problems with pacman.
here its my problem.
bash-3.2# pacman -Syu
:: Synchronizing package databases...
(1/1) frugalware-current [################] 100% 440K 62.0K/s 00:00:07
:: Starting local database upgrade...
:: Replace gst-plugins-good-cdio with frugalware-current/gst-plugins-ugly-cdio? [Y/n]
resolving dependencies... done.
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: gst-plugins-good-cdio: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
Above I selected to replace the gst plugin while here choose to not replace the plugin
bash-3.2# pacman -Syu
:: Synchronizing package databases...
frugalware-current is up to date
:: Starting local database upgrade...
:: Replace gst-plugins-good-cdio with frugalware-current/gst-plugins-ugly-cdio? [Y/n] n
resolving dependencies... done.
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: gst-plugins-good-cdio: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
As you can see there is no difference between the selection I made. And this is, IMHO, the first problem.<br />
The second one...
Since gst-plugins-good=0.10.9 is required, I tried to install it
bash-3.2# pacman -S gst-plugins-good
resolving dependencies... done.
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: gst-plugins-good-aalib: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-annodex: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-avc1394: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-cairo: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-cdio: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-dv: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-esd: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-flac: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-gconf: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-gdkpixbuf: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-halelements: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-jpeg: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-png: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-shout: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-speex: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-taglib: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-video4linux2: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-videobox: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-wavpack: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
:: gst-plugins-good-ximage: requires gst-plugins-good=0.10.9
As you can see I cannto install a pkg since its required by other pkgs. We say... the dog which eats its own tail.
And a final consideration.
IMHO its wrong that if a package miss a dependecy ALL other packages cant be upgraded. E.g. Due to the abve mentioned problem, I cannot install the kernel or an update for MySql or whatever... Only the packages which require those dependencies MUST not be installed.
Augh! :d
Have a great Sunday
