Please explain! What exactly is on my side?
I accept that the installer is reporting mysterious phantom conflicts, but it is not *my* installer!
As a user who is trying to install Frugalware, one downloads an iso, be it a net-install or a more complete version, one makes certain choices, often the defaults, and then the installer falls over.
How is that on our side?
As regards the non-existent intel driver, I quite accept that it is not on the mirrors. I have browsed them, and it definitely is not there. It appears, however, that it was there earlier (during May 2008); or at any rate the installer reported that it was. It certainly appeared on the "expert install" package listings.
When I used the "expert install" option to eliminate the driver, that particular fault was no longer reported. But the installer still fell over.
I do not seem to be the only person suffering from this problem.
Certainly, as regards my own limited experience, I have recently (again, May 2008) had similar problems on at least 3 machines, with both 32- and 64-bit current installations.
As regards my own machine, I was fortunate enough to have retained a working copy of Frugalware, so I was able to recover. In another case I was equipped with a copy of 32-bit net-install, a copy of the 32-bit CD1 and a working net connection. After several hours I failed to install Frugalware. I also had a Kubuntu CD with me. Yes, you've guessed it:(
I'm left with the only tenable explanation: the installer program is like me: it is old and cranky. I retired. Perhaps the installer program should follow suit?
But heck, I *do* so love Frugalware and the way its community works!
