open terminal and log into root, gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and look for your video card. but you need to have the current video drivers installed. i made the mistake to installing only part of the driver but i get it all working with compiz-fusion. once you have it installed just add all the screen resolutions you want and hope they work.
