Xorg upgrades have been merged to current. There is some manual intervention
required due to strict version depends. You will need to remove some packages
by force before you can complete your next system upgrade. This command should
assist you in this:
pacman-g2 -Rd ffmpeg-compiletime ffmpeg-0.6 ffmpeg-0.6-compiletime
grub2 2.00 has been merged. It requires some manual intervention to complete
the upgrade, but shouldn’t cause any problems if the upgrade is delayed. For detailed instructions on how to upgrade, please read the development upgrade notes. Thank you.
The systemd 188 merge has left a few packages that must be manually removed before
a successful system upgrade can be performed. This command should help you if you
are encountering this problem in current:
pacman-g2 -R systemd-gtk systemd-plymouth dracut-plymouth plymouth plymouth-theme-frugalware plymouth-theme-glow plymouth-theme-solar plymouth-theme-spinfinity
After this command you can upgrade by proceeding as you would normally. Thank you.
The upgrade to GRUB2 has been merged into current recently. This upgrade will not automatically break your system,
because it must be done manually by the user. GRUB1 will no longer be supported from now on, so you should proceed
with the upgrade as instructed here.
There has been an update to current in regards to systemd. During testing, there was discovered to be some issues with reboots and shutdowns appearing to ‘hang’.
Further inspection revealed that the behavior was caused by display-manager.service refusing to shutdown in a timely manner, by systemd’s definition. The process
still works out in the end, provided you wait long enough for the effected service to be forced to terminate by timeout.
If you are upgrading current or to current any time soon, you will need to take special measures. We have switched our stock kernel to using an initrd by default now, but this only effects i686 and x86_64 for now. All other archs are unchanged. If you are running a fairly simple grub setup, you only need to run grubconfig after the complete upgrade. If not, then you need to add this line to your Frugalware menu entry in menu.
KMS is now enabled by default in Frugalware-current. It’s recommended to read the relevant part of the upgrade documentation before you upgrade to avoid unexpected results.
If you follow the nVidia news, you probably know that there is a new legacy driver. Basically all the support for the FX cards is dropped in the mainline package and is left in a new legacy package.
The new legacy driver is now available as nvidia-173xx, and the latest nvidia package is also available. So please check your card status and update to the nvidia-173xx package if needed before reporting that X doesn’t start anymore.
The Frugalware Developer Team is pleased to announce the availability of the new major version of GNOME Desktop (3.0) into frugalware current repository.
