Frugalware is a general purpose linux distribution, designed for intermediate users (who are not afraid of text mode).
We try to make Frugalware as simple as possible while not forgetting to keep it comfortable for the user. We try to ship fresh and stable software, as close to the original source as possible, because in our opinion most software is the best as is, and doesn’t need patching.
The Frugalware wiki has been upgraded and now complies with the official design. The wiki needs your contributions, so don’t hesitate to put there your personal HOWTOs, translate the current pages in your language, create new pages (see the TODO link on sidebar)…
The Frugalware user community is counting on you!

The only added feature since 1.4rc2 is LibreOffice (replaces OpenOffice.org), additionally 109 changes have been made to fix minor bugs. If you didn’t follow the changes during the pre/rc releases, here are the most important changes since 1.3 in no particular order:
Updated packages: Linux kernel 2.6.37, Xorg server 1.9, GNOME 2.
The Frugalware homepage is now available in Spanish and can be found here: http://frugalware.org/es. One of Frugalware’s founding principles was that it be accessible to people in their native language and this is one step forward along that path. Many thanks to all who were involved in providing translations and we hope this continues for many years to come.

The Frugalware Developer Team is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Frugalware 1.4rc2, the second candidate of the upcoming 1.4 stable release. Here are some of the major improvements, fixes and updates since 1.4rc1:
Package updates: Linux 2.6.37 + fixes KDE SC 4.5 Drupal 7 obsoletes Drupal 5. If a drupal-5 package has its own drupal-6 counterpart (eg. drupal-cck), then the drupal-6 one (drupal6-cck) replaces the old one automatically. If a drupal-5 package DOES NOT have its own drupal6 counterpart, then the drupal6 package replaces it - sorry for the inconvenience, those drupal-5 bastards are not even supported by upstream.
The Frugalware Developer Team is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Frugalware 1.4rc1, the first candidate of the upcoming 1.4 stable release. Here are some of the major improvements, fixes and updates since 1.4pre2:
Package updates: Linux 2.6.36.2 Firefox 3.6.13, Chromium 10.0.616.0 Midnight Commander 4.7.5 New Features: New LCD font rendering available in GNOME. If you use digital video output, this will improve font appearance. OSSv4 has been added. Feel free to try it out if you have issues with ALSA.
